Free analysis for your blog at SEOprofiler

There are different approaches blogger may have towards their blogging activities. Some consider content as the most important, and the only important, part of your activity as bloggers, putting next to zero attention on search engine optimization, links promotion, keywords, and everything else, which is requires extra time and efforts. Other bloggers strictly follow the rules of SEO, and investigate the possible implication for the blog popularity, and write the content solely based on the popular keywords and known guidelines. Most of the bloggers see themselves somewhere between these extreme approaches.

So, if you are content blogger (as I am), you may want once a while check your site for backlinks, ratings, and Google PageRank, for example, to see where you are from SEO perspectives, and how you can improve the blog popularity without shifting your attention from the content itself.

There are multiple services, and some are free, to help you with the task. Today, we would like to present the SEOprofiler offerings for bloggers. The process is fast and simple and does not require registration.

I have analyzed as example one of my blogs http://webfreebies4u.blogspot.com

How to submit blog sitemap to Bing?

As you know, Search Engine Bing, powered by Microsoft, is one of the new successful additions to the marketing niche, dominated by Google. You may need to consider seriously your exposure to the Bing searchers, besides focusing on Google and Yahoo! To get more visibility, you can follow the simple steps, described below.

1. The first thing is to create an account or use one you already have for the services of pages of Microsoft, like Hotmail.

2. If this is the first time you access the service and never have sent your URL, you will see the option to "Add Site. You can have multiple websites / blogs in the same account.

3. Go to http://www.bing.com/webmaster/
* Click the "Add Site" to add the URL of your blog.
* Enter the address of your blog where it says.
* And click on "Submit" to submit your request.

4. Verify your ownership of your website.
Webmaster Tools requires authentication to ensure that only the rightful owners are provided with information about their websites. There are two ways to prepare your website for authentication, both of which rely on your adding an authentication code your website. You need to do only one of them to get verified.

* "Option 1" offers blog authorship verification by hosting a XML file on your Web Server, which is appropriate for the server hosted blogs (Wordpress.org, for example).

* "Option 2" represents a meta tag authorization by adding certain source code to your blog template (recommended for Blogger blogs).

As I am a Blogger platform user, I have applied the second approach, and it takes just a minute to complete site authorization. You can go to the panel, click on "Design" ~> "Edit HTML" and embed the generated line under the head. Then click the "Verify" button to let Bing to confirm your registration. Note that the tracking and displaying data indexing can take several days to begin to appear.

5. Adding sitemap of your blog
Now, when your blog has been successfully verified you can send its sitemap to get it crawled easier and help the algorithms to find and read its contents. Click on Add Sitemap on the line of your blog listing. At this point you have to add the address of the sitemap file to your blog.

* For blogs on Blogger (Blogspot) your map address definition is pretty simple. Just Enter the default address of RSS Feed, as in the example below:

URL- http://blogging4good.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/default?alt=rss

* For wordpress.org blogs
You may use site maps generator Google (XML) Sitemaps Generator for WordPress. Simply create or have created an XML file of your sitemap, hosted on your host and add the link as explained above, clicking the "Submit".

How to Delete ‘nofollow’ Attribute from Blogger Blog

Blogger by default, and other blogging software such as WordPress, automatically adds the "nofollow" microformat extension to all links from user generated content. User generated content is defined as comments or external sources such as linkbacks and trackbacks.

Difference Between NoFollow and Follow Links?

Follow Back Links

These links pass on all “link juice” to the site being linked to, which means search engines follow this link to your site and take note of it. This is why the link is called a follow link, and this is also why these links are the best for your SEO.

Pros

* Link Juice - The most obvious and lucrative benefit of follow back links is the link juice they send to your site. This will help boost your rankings in search engines because most search engines (Google being the main one) calculate your rankings based largely on the amount of links you have coming into your site.

* Increased Interaction - Every visitor of your site had something they were looking for. If you own a webmaster or make money blog or site like mine, follow back links can increase your interaction because these readers are often looking for ways to get a free back link when they visit your site.

* Higher Value - If you sell links on your site, they will no doubt sell for more if they are follow back links rather than if they are no follow back links.

Cons

* Search Engine Backlash - Search engines, Google in particular, are really cracking down on follow back links. They are not only penalizing the site that sells the links or distributes them, but if they have proof of a paid link they will go even further and penalize the buyer. This could backfire on you, so you have to make sure your links look and seem organic, all while not overdoing the whole process.

* Decreased Value - Too many follow links on your page and Google will label you as a link farm and discount the value of each individual link and may even reduce your rankings. Generally speaking, the fewer follow links on a page, the more juice to pass on to each one of those links.

NoFollow Back Links

No follow back links are just like any other link, except they have a small “rel=nofollow” added to the end of them, which means that a search engine crawler will not follow the link to the next site and therefore will not index your page and mark the link as a backlink. These links will still bring you traffic though, which means they are just as useful for normal visitors.

Pros

* Make Genuine Ones Count - By keeping the majority of your links as no follow, you will be making sure your actual in-post or on site links are worth more. So if you’re selling paid reviews and paid links, it may be in your best interests to keep the paid links nofollow to increase the sales of your paid reviews and to make the actual links in your post count more.

* Search Engine Favour - Google has repeatedly been quoted as saying that sites with more nofollow links will fare better in the future, and many are pointing this out as a clue on their part that if you use nofollow links for all your irrelevant or link sales, you will rank higher in the search engines.

* Made for Users - Even though a nofollow backlink may not be helpful to search engine or a webmaster, it is made for users. There is no visible difference in the link, first of all. Secondly, you are helping keep the web clean and to maintain its high quality. Finally, since you are not changing the appearance of a nofollow link, you are still sending traffic or allowing users to visit a site of a commentator or a friend.

Cons

* Link Juice - Once again, the primary and most important factor in the entire nofollow vs follow debate is the “juice” you get from high pagerank or high quality pages linking to yours. This juice is not passed on in a nofollow link and therefore you get minimal SEO benefit.

* Reduced Interaction - Some of your visitors might be “turned-off” by a nofollow link on blog comments, and many times they will not comment if the links the blog is providing are nofollow. This can be a big hit if your blog is fairly small and in a webmaster related niche as commenting and interaction on your site and blog will dip.

* Lost Revenue - If you sell text-links on your site and you mark them as nofollow, be ready to take a hit in your revenue. Like I’ve pointed out above, nofollow text links do not bring nearly as much money or sales as a follow text link will. The reason behind this is because people who are looking for text-links are primarily looking for SEO benefit.

As you see, the advantages of removing no follow attributes in your Blogger blog are not straightforward, and you might decide not to do that removal after all. But if you want to experiment with that modification, or you are positive that potential advantages are overwhelming, you will find below the Blogger hack on how to remove “no follow” attribute from you account.

How to Delete ‘nofollow’ Attribute on Blogger

1. Login into your blogger. Usually you will bring to Dashboard after login.
2. Choose your blog and click “Layout”.
3. Click “Edit Html” subtab on the “Template” tab.
4. Before removing ‘nofollow‘ attribute (as with any other template modification), it is recommended to backup you template by clicking Download Full Template and saving in the safe location on your Hard Drive. You can re-enable it if your template modification producing the errors.
5. Check “Expand Widgets” checkbox at at the top of the Edit Template text box. This expands the Blog Posts Widget Code within which is the comments code.
6. Scroll down the template and find below code

<dl id=’comments-block’>
<b:loop values=’data:post.comments’ var=’comment’>
<dt class=’comment-author’expr:id=’"comment-" + data:comment.id’>
<a expr:name=’"comment-" +data:comment.id’/>
<b:if cond=’data:comment.authorUrl’>
<a expr:href=’data:comment.authorUrl’ rel=’nofollow’><data:comment.author/></a>
<b:else/>
<data:comment.author/>
</b:if>
<data:commentPostedByMsg/>
</dt>

7. Detele the code rel=’nofollow’ (or you can remove only no, making it rel=’follow‘) and save the template.

You are done!

An easy SEO strategy for better search engine ranking.

Today, I have learnt an important lesson in blogging. It is not enough to write useful content to attract daily unique visitors to my blogs.

Probably you might also be under the same impression. Our blogs get targeted visitors mainly from search engine results for the keyword, the searcher uses. And for that, we must rewrite the title of our blog.

I did that just now. Please look at the top of the browser and you will see the following:
Money by blogging| Blog Promotion| Blogging tools
This is what I write about mostly in this blog. Now I have informed the search engine clearly what this blog about is. Earlier, it used to be 'Blog Avenues' which you and I can make out something from it but the search engines could not match our intelligence.

You can also do this now.
Click on 'Edit HTML' of your blog and you will see this almost immediately:
“[title][data:blog.pageTitle][title]”

Please note that I have used different brackets above as I am facing problem writing here. Hope you understand.

Now replace the words in between the title tags with proper words that explain your blog's purpose. Preview and save the template if you are satisfied with what you see in the browser.

If you want to make money...

If you want to make money from your blog.... Ok, let me cut it short. Why there should be an 'if'? I want to make money from my blogs and so do millions of bloggers.

I have been underestimating my blog posts for long and I recently was made to realize that I am not a bad blogger and in fact my blog content is really good and useful. Then what is the missing aspect; why my blog is not fetching me money?

A nail was driven hard on my head. My blog requires search engine optimization and it requires a professional approach. SEO-the term feared by many non-techie bloggers like I.

So I searched the web to gain firsthand insight about the basics of SEO for beginner bloggers. I happen to read an in depth article in about.com that contained an interview with SEO expert Gab Goldenberg.

Would like to have a glance?

Improving Blog Placement Optimizing Title

In one of my previous publications, I have presented a way to swap parts of the blog post title the way that the post name will go before the blog name, as it is setup by default in the Blogger templates. There are multiple advantages of this simple transformation, both from aesthetical and Search Engines Optimization point of views. Your posts will be less competitive in respect to each other for a descent space on the search page for the particular search items. It is always good to have your main keywords (introduced in your Post title) of a specific blog post at the start rather than placing your blog title at the start. The situation improvement is even more significant, if the blog post title is very long. The method offered was tested, and its works on my Blogger blog posts.

This time, I want to present one more way to reach the same, or almost the same outcome (the only difference is a separation sign between blog post title and blog title). However, there is always good to have a choice. This time, credit goes to BloggerTricks blog.

Let’s make the process more visual.

Before the trick:
1
After the trick:
22
How to change:

As usual, Sign in to Blogger » Layout » Edit html and find this line in the current blog template:
<title><data:blog.title/></title>

Now, replace that line with the following code:

<b:if cond='data:blog.pageType == "item"'>
<title><data:blog.pageName/>
<data:blog.title/></title>
<b:else/>
<title><data:blog.pageTitle/></title> </b:if>

Save the Changes.
The method has been also tested on this blog, and it worked for me.

What is Google PageRank?

One of the users of my Blog asked for clarification of what is meaning and importance of the Google (PageRank) for the blog and site popularity. There are online arguing among SEO specialists of how important the PR is for improving your site popularity and site indexing in Search Engines, however, everybody agree on the fact of the higher PR - better. Some Q & A on the topic:

What is Pagerank and how does it work?

PageRank is a system implemented by Google that measures a web page’s significance only taking into account the links and links related factors. The fundamentals are that each web page is giving votes to the links on that page and the power of the vote is established by the number of links pointing to the page that gives the vote. The votes are divided among the links on the page so the lesser number of links, the more share of the vote is given to each link.

How often does Google update their PR?

Google representatives, such as engineer Matt Cutts, have publicly indicated that the Toolbar PageRank is republished about once every 3 months, indicating that the Toolbar PageRank values are generally unreliable measurements of actual PageRank value for most periods of the year. However, PR is updated at Google daily (or close to daily). New links are factored into the equation and they are applied to a page’s PR. You just cannot see this PR until Google does its next public PR update.

What is the importance of the Google PageRank?

PageRank is important as it used by Google to determine the quality of a Web site. Having a high PageRank will result in faster and more successful search engine positioning. The basic requirements of a high PageRank are: Good Web Site Structure - Structuring your site in a simple and user-friendly fashion will add to your PageRank. The highest PageRank possible for good structure is PageRank 3. To rank higher than a 3, you need good quality links pointing to your site.

How to check Google PageRank for any Website?

While there are many free services and free programs, that are able to check PageRank for any Website, I would recommend using the new free service URLMetrix that is able to check any URL for multiple metrics like: Google Page Rank, Alexa Rank, Compete Rank, Quantcast Rank, Technorati Rank, Google Indexed, Yahoo Indexed, Google Backlinks, Technorati Blog reactions and lots more.

To give a proper ending for the topic of discussion, I want to present nice lyrical song dedicated to PageRank for all current and prospective Webmasters:

PageRank Lyrical Song

Bloggerplugins Help to Optimize Blog Title for Search Engines

You have probably already noticed that when you search Google for something and your blog is present in the search results the Title of the result will be of the form: Blog Title + Post Title. Here is a hack that will change the title to the following more attractive format: Post Title + Blog Title. This trick will help you to optimize the blog title for Search Engines and is expected to drive more visitors to your blog.

Note that it will take some time for the new title format to appear in the search results (actually, following the next re-indexation of your blog by the crawling spider).

Relevance Spirit Freeware to improve Website Competiveness

"PageRank competition" is a sport usually practiced by webmasters. On the other hand, the management of the pages relevance is not considered as important factor. However, the fact is that some websites, presenting a pretty low pagerank, appear in good competitive conditions based on the search engines results. This is caused by their proper relevance on certain keywords.

In this publication we present RelevanceSpirit, a specialized tool to manage website relevance.

Whatever your current pagerank is, or your future pagerank will be, your classification between the results of the search engines depends significantly on the terms used in your pages, of the number of times that these terms are repeated, and in the way in which they figure in your meta tags.

Relevance approach is strengthening a competitive position of the website and might offer even better results on the long term website exposure, in comparison with the pagerank.

This utility was developed to manage and optimize all the parameters which influence your pages relevance. Software is open source, absolutely free and does not require installation.

Locating Authority Sites for your Keywords with Traffic Marks

Traffic Marks is an absolutely free Web 2.0 service, helping bloggers to find the authority websites for certain keywords.

It is not a secret that “The No.1 Way to Rank on the 1st Page of Google is to Get Incoming Backlinks from Authority Sites”. Traffic Marks is a web-based SEO application that identifies so-called hub sites that usually rank in at least 3 of the top 10 ranking sites for your given keyword.

SEO experts say that just one link from these sites is more secure in getting first page position than 100 different incoming backlinks from unknown websites! Traffic Marks now brings the ability to hone in and pinpoints these authority sites to the home user. And, again, the service is absolutely free.

The full process of successful site utilization can be structured in 4 easy steps:

Step 1: Identify the keyword you want to rank on Google for.
Step 2: Use Traffic Marks to find out what backlinks the top 10 search results in Google have in common.
Step 3: Identify the key authority sites for your chosen keyword phrase.
Step 4: Formulate a strategy to obtain links from these sites to your page.

Definitely, that is just beginning of the process, since you still need to get these backlinks, but at least you know exactly, which Website you need to target, and that is very important for efficient blog or site promotion project completion.

Piwik - Open Source Competitor to Google Analytics

Piwik (previously known as "phpmyvisits") aims to be an open source alternative and direct competitor to the famous statistics from Google Analytics. As both programs are free for its members, the main fight for the users will be on the level of the usability, user interface, and set of features available.

Piwik provides detailed reports on the web site visitors, enhanced statistics per pages popularity, overview of search engine keywords, languages used, traffic origins, and much more. If in US it is just starting its way to the consumers, in Japan it is already well-known to the bloggers and website owners.

What makes Piwik different:

* Open APIs

* Plugins Architecture. New features can be added and unneeded stats can be dropped. In its basic format, there are four different categories - dashboard, visitors, actions, and referrers. Each section includes multiple analytical widgets that can be added and removed easily. Outcomes can be presented as bar graphs, pie charts, or plain text.

* Data abstraction layer

* Customizable dashboard.

* Innovative customizable User Interface. You can drag and drop the widgets you want to display and create the reports you want.

Note, that Piwik should be installed on your webserver, while all the data is stored in your own database.

Is the additional cost of SEO necessary?

I am an advocate of the necessity of SEO but not as an additional cost. I feel the web designer should take up the responsibility of designing the website search engine friendly.

He should not assume that his client will know about SEO. He should patiently explain the importance of SEO to his client. In fact, if I were a web designer, I would incorporate the SEO factor in it.

Will a house builder build a house that is not occupation ready? Does he charge anything extra for you to move in?

Basically, a web developer is not a professional if he doesn't develop a website that is crawler friendly. But almost all those web designers charge extra for SEO. It is time, we, the clients wake up and educate them. (Smile)

Are we missing something about PPC?

I guess I along with millions of webmasters all over the world am not claiming my share of income from PPC advertising. At the same time, I know that there are equal number of webmasters out there who are happily pocketing major chunks.

I would readily accept that knowledge alone about PPC won’t entitle me to my share of PPC advertising but I do require proper PPC tools created by experts. Mere self learned knowledge is definitely not going to help me.

PPC tools at semhints.com will also help webmasters save a lot of money by using proper keywords.

Similarly, the next important knowledge for webmasters is search engine optimization. Like PPC advertising, information about SEO also can be found in abundance in the Internet. We all naturally read anything that cross our path leaving us confused. So, the best way to learn completely about SEO tools is to buy an all-in-one SEO package

It won’t harm us if we all learn the fundamentals of search engines and how a website or a blog gets a page rank by Google. In SEO forums and other webmaster forums, I have read hundreds of posts on search engine marketing hints and tips that have been useful to me so far. There are also some valid points on search engine marketing I found at semhints.com

Semhints.com is loaded with extraordinary information for bloggers and webmasters.
